''Sometimes Change Is Easy''

for you can't change what's not seen
Sometimes your full attention
's all you need to change the screen
It's as easy as perceiving
so it's not that you're obtuse
Anything more complicated
's just a complicated ruse
It's as simple as just looking
for then what's there can be addressed
For anything you close your eyes to
's what you need to be your best
Yes, sometimes change is easy
nothing fancy to go through
But to simply take the time
to put a name to what you do
COMMENTARY:
I have a friend who's been challenged for quite some time to lose weight. On the advice of a counselor, she recently started a simple log of what she eats every day. She found that that simple act has been having a profound effect on her eating habits. She's eating less and losing weight! She figures that clearly having to admit to herself in writing the quality and quantity of what she's putting into her mouth, brings her dietary transgressions to a level of consciousness that is curbing her normally unconscious habits.
That's also why many counselors, self-help gurus advocate keeping a diary or journal, and why compulsive goal-achievers write down their goals. Sometimes change is as easy as awareness. Ahh, the power of a focused mind.
