''The Meaning of the Moments''
I was having a conversation with a friend who rates all her relationships as either 'good' or 'bad.' She first considers how long they lasted, then by assessing how much of that time was pleasurable, determines whether the relationship overall was a good one or bad one.....Well, my view is a little different. I believe it's not the nature of the interaction that makes the relationship good or bad, but whether you use the opportunity that the circumstances provide to help you define and develop who you are and wish to become.... She said,
"If I knew back then what I know right now--"
but stop, for that's not fair,
For hindsight scatters clouds
and makes your vision crystal clear
So therefore, I submit to you
a different point of view
Instead of rating best or worse
let's focus now on you
They come, they go and life goes on
but what have you become?
Is there some gift you did extract
or really was there none?
For every interaction holds
a truth for one and all
A blessing and a benefit
despite what you recall
I'd like to think that each and every
person whom I've met
Has helped me see a part of me
I'd not encountered yet
Through good or bad their role was such
that had you only known
You might have seen a teacher
in some way you might have grown
To love, to laugh, to learn, to live
cannot be done alone
In relation to another's how
these vital skills we hone
The meaning of the moments
spent with people whom we know
Exists in what we learn about ourselves
and how we grow!
COMMENTARY:
Stop beating yourself up for your past choices. You can't make any better choices than those that you see as available to you at the time. And the truth about life is that you see with different eyes every new day of your life. So you always make the best and only choices that you can make given who you are at any moment.
