''Square Pegs (aka ''The Gap'')''

A friend of mine just walked away from a position at a major clothing company (To protect his privacy, I can't reveal which one. You'll have to guess!). He did it to stay true to his creative standards and to pursue his passion.
Though personal, his situation can apply to many who've been there (like myself), and those currently struggling in a square peg environment while dreaming of their passion. This is my ode to his decision.
Like pieces of a puzzle
there's a space we all must fill
But honoring your calling
that's the part that takes some skill
I call it ''square peg living''
where you force yourself to fit
While knowing in your heart
that there's no way that this is it
A noble effort, granted
much respect, don't get me wrong
With all your quirks and edges
I'm surprised you stayed this long!
For some would stay for money
and still others out of fear
You've never bowed to either, so
what the heck are you doing there?!!!
When square pegs meet round holes
there'll be a gap that's not quite filled
Make room for who'll fit better
and go forth, with faith and build!
P.S. I guess this just confirms
a truth you've known down in your gut
You fit in fewer places
when you're intricately cut
In other words, some pieces of the puzzle can fit just about anywhere. The more intricately cut pieces have to find the exact place in life where they belong.
