''Checkpoints''

As you travel on life's highway
the key to faring well, my friend
Is to recognize the checkpoints
as they come around each bend

If you find yourself exclaiming
"How could things have come to this?"
Chances are it's just a checkpoint
not that something is amiss

See, a checkpoint is a moment
that demands that you take stock
What most people see are obstacles
impassable road blocks

It's as if you're crossing borders
to another state of mind
And the border guard asks questions
so your answers must align

Checkpoints challenge your identity
and prepare you to compete
Necessary rites of passage
no avoidance or retreat

All that's needed is a picture
of the you you need to be
Once presented then you'll pass
how much simpler could life be?

When you're tested by life's challenges
and don't know what to do
Treat them like you would a checkpoint:
get beyond by going through

SUMMARY:
Life is a journey.
Your choice of roads determines which checkpoints you'll encounter as you pass from one state of mind to another.
You are your own border guard.
Ask yourself the right questions.
Determine your new identity.
Do not avoid, but go through the checkpoint experience.
Proceed and fare well.

COMMENTARY:
Checkpoint experiences are life's challenges that test your mettle. They present you with people, circumstances and situations that allow you to confirm your new identity. Don't avoid these experiences. Like the checkpoints along a highway, you get beyond them by going through them.
