''The Absence of Bad''

the bad are no better.
With the absence of bad
the good are made better."--Walt Goodridge
It is never enough to
lay claim to respect
citing all the good things that you do
It's essential, my friend
to win favor and fame
that you stop doing all the bad things too
For the presence of good
may endear you to some
but in truth is just half of success
It's the absence of bad
that secures you your name
and each goal towards which you progress!
COMMENTARY:
Here's a question for you to ponder today: Are we considered "good" to the degree that we do the right thing, or to the degree that we don't do the wrong things? In other words, are you a "good" person because you help senior citizens cross the street? Or are you good because you choose not to shoot them?
You'd likely agree that one can not be a good samaritan on Sunday, and a killer on Monday and still lay claim to, or qualify for that distinction. Similarly, in your quest for health, for example, you can't claim to be on the path for health simply because you eat fruit in the morning, while bingeing on processed, refined, high fat, high cholesterol food in the evening. In order to achieve health, you must add the "good," while removing the "bad" in order to fully qualify. In fact, it's the absence of "bad" that really determines how healthy you are.
Consequently, any pursuit of success, be it wealth, health, love or spiritual peace, must incorporate a two-pronged approach in order to be effective. For example, to achieve
FINANCIAL WEALTH: pursue income, while removing debt/bad money habits
PHYSICAL HEALTH: eat healthy foods, while eliminating unhealthy ones
LOVE: pursue relationships while removing barriers to intimacy
The same is true in many other aspects of personal and business life. Realize that a single blemish on your credit history, a transgression in your past, or a single irate customer (all instances of the "bad") can do more damage to your reputation than the combined instances of the "good" can do to maintain it.
