''Conventional Wisdom''

and you might jump ship and flee
And live your life in terror
fearing what you cannot see
Put your stock in forecasts
and you mayn't survive the crash
And all that worthless paper
will be good for naught but trash
Believe what pundits tell you
and the world is only hate
You're apt to see all things
as based on how they speculate
I've seen it time and time again
how life reflects the mind
And others' worlds are nothing but
their thoughts returned in kind
So choose advisors wisely
question those whom you would heed
Be not as lemmings rushing blind
behind the ones who lead
COMMENTARY:
Whether the "wisdom" is the state of the world, polititcal views, or another's idea of what you should do with your life, realize that the only advice another can give you is one drawn from the world in which they've personally inhabited. Before accepting their conventional wisdom, therefore, ask yourself, "Is this person living the sort of life I wish to live?
