''Pathway to the Core''

The feelings are the symptoms
but your history is root cause
Beliefs are now the scars of wounds
To heal you've got to pause

First probe through to emotions
for they'll lead you to the cure
But treating them alone, my friend
still leaves more to endure

It starts with something deeper
things aren't always what they seem
Keep asking why, and who, and when
and what does this thing mean

Deny it all you like
the treatment's easy to resist
But rest assured I tell you
that no other cures exist

For only at the center
does it all make any sense
You do the things you do
most likely as your heart's defense

Now ask yourself, "What new thoughts
do I choose to have instead?"
On the pathway to the core
is how you move your life ahead!

COMMENTARY:
Here's some homework for you to do to address that area of your life that's causing you the most grief. Write out and list thoroughly the answers to these questions:

1. What/how am I feeling?

2. What do I believe about myself, others and the world that is causing these feelings?

3. What image of myself, others and the world do I get to keep by believing these things?

4. Are these beliefs getting me what I want?

5. If not, what new beliefs would help me achieve what I desire?

6. BONUS: What experiences have led to these beliefs?

Any time you're unhappy, it's because you are suffering from an erroneous perception. There's a "fatal flaw" with how you perceive yourself, people or the world. Don't waste time dealing with the beliefs, or simply finding ways to justify them. At the core of who you are is the answer that needs to be uprooted. Once you make the connection, the strangle-hold starts to weaken. Address the core issue, not the symptons....because nothing else matters.

Inspired by my conversation with Asher!
