when who and what I was became perfection in their eyes
But then I came to think that I was just not good enough
and hid myself from view within a cold dark world of lies
I saw that those around me lived for years without a touch
and smiles and hugs and kisses too need not be part of life
These images affect me still and haunt me just as much
and make me fear commitment and result in days of strife
But someone told me recently some words I've longed to hear
that other people in my life are really loving me
And just because some chose to live entrapped in loveless fear
that doesn't mean that I will too and thus I can be free!
