''In the Comfort of Our Creations''

In the comfort of our own creations
we often find ourselves at rest
Content to laze away our lives
without the urge to do what's best

In circumstances of our choosing
or as they say, "the bed we've made"
We dread the days and damn the drama
and often wonder why we've stayed

This life we live is like a picture
with scenes we brush from head and heart
When once you recognize the painter
your days become like works of art!

COMMENTARY:
The world you live in is like a picture. A canvas upon which you have held the creator's brush all these years. Despite appearances to the contrary, it's not a tacky "B" movie into which you've been cast against your will.

Who you are and the scenes that unfold are a direct outcome of decisions you've made given who you were at those moments.

Denying our part in the drama that unfolds and refusing to move to safer more nurturing quarters is the recipe for continued heartache.

Here's how it usually works: You choose from a place of awareness and then move forward to another scene. Soon, the choices you made in act 1 no longer serve you in act 2. Since in life you can't go back and re-shoot the first act. Your only option is to make new decisions based on who you are now in Act 2.

However, many of us get trapped living out our act 1 choices fearing to make new decisions simply because of the comfort factor. We hate the place we are, but are fearful of change simply because we've gotten comfortable.

Even if we're in pain, it's such a familiar pain that we often choose to remain in the "comfort of our own creations" even when it ceases to support us in our growth.

The trick for most of us, therefore, is first to acknowledge our part, see ourselves as the painter, forgive ourselves for our earlier choices, then make new decisions from a now (hopefully) healthier mental space.

Don't get trapped in the comfort... Note: The first few Walt's Friday Inspiration emails included quotes from various authors and personalities. It wasn't until episode 19 that I tried my hand at writing the rhyme-based inspirational messages myself. The rest, as they, is history...
