''The Wool You Pull''

with excuses you believe
But rest assured, my friend
it's just yourself whom you deceive
For I know from experience
that when men commit to act
No mountain can obstruct them
and no detours will distract
To do the things that matter most
your schedule you'd revise
No lengthy list of reasons why
can make it otherwise
It's clear you simply made a choice
to do or not to do
This wool's for your eyes only, friend
For mine can see right through!
COMMENTARY:
A coaching client of mine reminded me of something I told him that, he said, changed his perspective on accomplishing his goals. When he failed to accomplish a task we had agreed he would complete, I stopped him from listing the reasons why (in his mind) he wasn't able to do the thing he intended to.
I told him the reasons weren't important and that only results mattered. I told him that I know that people find the time, energy, resources, ways and means to do what's important to them.
I encouraged him, therefore, to simply admit to me that he chose to do something else rather than the original task, because the list of reasons he was giving me weren't working. I told him that he could choose to pull the wool over his own eyes if he wanted to, but that mine see perfectly clearly. I now incorporate that concept into my Ground Rules for the Journey when I coach anyone on turning their passion into profit, and today it's yours to share!
