''The Dollar That Made Me a Millionaire''

was an ordinary sort of bill
Not very crisp, and even dull
just your ordinary run of the mill
I got it at the checkout
of my favorite little store
Changed some coins into paper,
so I could feel like I had more
Feeling down about my lot in life
over a success I often craved
Yet in all the years I lived and toiled
not one penny had I saved
I took it home and made a pact
for no one else to see
This wrinkled bill I'll use to build
a changed and different me
(So late that night in present tense
I made a silent vow
To reach my dreams despite my state
I have to live them now)
I imbued it with a mission
to tithe and save and grow
A symbol of my commitment
to rise from no matter how low
So with this piece of paper,
depressed, and almost on the dole
To spend it, though, I knew would mean
the forfeit of my goal
From that point on the tide did shift
each day I watched in awe:
I learned that wealth comes first in mind
and not by luck but law
This bill I've saved to this day still
was more than equal to the task
Yes the dollar that made me a millionaire
was the first one, not the last
