''From an Elevated Perspective''
Too Big
With your head in the clouds
it's a whole different view
and you see like the eagle and hawk
While unseen at your feet
are those trampled below
who say simply, "Sir, watch where you walk!"
Right
When the world is against you
and don't see things your way
then perhaps that's the time for a fight
But don't make the mistake
and miss forest for trees
just to say one to all "I was right!"
Left
All position is relative
the question to ask
must become first "Whose right?" and "Whose left?"
Opposition eliminated
the question to ask
now becomes not "Who's right?" but "Who's left?"
COMMENTARY:
When the world around us seems confusing and disappointing, it's usually because we are using the world's lenses to view it. I've learned, that as far as developing methods to cope with life's uncertainties, that the world is best viewed, as a friend of mine is fond of saying, "from an elevated perspective." Not the elevated perspective of someone whose head is in the clouds, but from the perspective of someone who strives to see beyond the visible, the commonly accepted and the seemingly apparent and obvious. It's true that we're living a "material illusion" and that as far as earthly things go, we are affected by the material world and goings-on around us. But the basis of our internal coping mechanism (ie. how we deal with things) must come from other realms that are not rooted in the illusion of the here and now. (At least, that's the way I see it)
So some of the best advice you'll hear, and much of what will keep you sane in the face of adversity, therefore, will often seem counterintuitive--("Buy when the market is low; Look for success in every failure; See the glass as half-full; See the future as bright when the present seems dark; Turn off the television; Stay in control in the face of things you can't control, etc.")--but, of course, that's the challenge for those who seek to become masters. The path to freedom is often exactly where the world fears to go.
