I've heard on one of my favorite radio shows [The Positive Mind with Armand Dimele; WBAI-FM NYC] that what is ultimately most attractive about a new love is not what the other person brings to you, but what you become in their presence. You are attracted most to yourself and how you get to think about yourself, and how you get to view yourself when you're around this person. This may indeed be triggered by them fitting a certain image, or having certain traits that you find desirable, but ultimately it is the heightened self-appreciation that is the addictive component of the new love experience.
With that said, I offer you....The Me I Get to Be
The me I choose to show you
or the me you think you know
May not be me at all but just
the right one for the show
The you you felt you had to be
to win the world's attention?
A product of true genius
and may be your best invention!
But think how freeing it would be
to find and know ourselves
And give the world what's real
instead of offering what sells
No judgements, no agendas
no posture and no pose
Just free and clear acceptance
of the self that no one knows
I love who I can be now
as within your gaze I bask
A flawed yet perfect treasure
with no need to don a mask
The ultimate excitement
that our journey holds for me,
Is coming face to face now
with the me I get to be!
