''Firewood''

there are those who think they're cursed
They're just so blind to how it works
they've got things all reversed
They're opting not to work too hard
'til bossman pays them more
Refusing to commit to love
until they can be sure
They simply won't invest in life
for fear that they might lose
Unsure of just which path is best
they often never choose
But holding back from giving
when the outcome is in doubt's
Like choosing not to race
until you know how it turns out
In life you must give first
before expecting your return
You'll never get the heat
without some firewood to burn!
COMMENTARY:
There's a popular cartoon depicting a man standing in front of a wood-burning stove yelling in anger, "Give me some heat first, and then I'll give you the wood!" As silly as it seems, many of us do the same thing by expecting the rewards for our efforts before we invest adequately. The truth is: in your job, the raise comes as a result of the effort you invest. In relationships, the love is maintained as a result of the commitment you bring to it. The answers to what steps to take come as a result of the choice of path you make. In other words, you've got to put the firewood in first, before you can expect the warmth in return.
