''freshwater yearnings''

and I'm choking on the brine
Immersed in an environment
that's poison to my kind
The waves may shine and glitter
and the eye the lake doth soothe
But thick it is with obstacles
that slow my every move
I long to live in waters
that support fishes like me
And swim unbound in schools of thought
that lift and set me free
I know that I will get there
for I've made that silent vow
Freshwater is my destiny
someday, someway, somehow
I fight an upstream battle
and yes, I swim against the tide
But freedom waits I'm sure
for I'm the little fish that tried!
COMMENTARY:
Sometimes being in certain relationships can feel like you're drowning in an ocean that's getting saltier and more toxic every day. If you need fresh water to survive, but your "other" is a deep sea dweller that thrives on salt water, can the two species cohabitate successfully? Or must one or the other seek their natural habitat? What's a fish to do? Note: The first few Walt's Friday Inspiration emails included quotes from various authors and personalities. It wasn't until episode 19 that I tried my hand at writing the rhyme-based inspirational messages myself. The rest, as they, is history...
