''The Short List''

There's a real short list of friends I call
to be my helping hand
For help must be condition-free
and this few understand

There's yet a shorter list of those
I tell my troubles to
Who share new ways of thinking
and enlightened points of view

The list is even shorter still
of those I really trust
What pain it is to find your values
trampled in the dust

You enter on this list of mine
to find your rank and station
Not via public thoroughfare
but special invitation

Choose not your love or friend
from just the free, fine, fit and able
But ask of who would be with you
"What do you bring to the table?"

COMMENTARY:
Of course, in fairness, you too should have a clear idea of what you bring to the table. What do you have to offer those who would have you in their lives. It's not enough to simply want the right person. It's often more critical to be the right person.

Dedicated to those on my list!Note: The first few Walt's Friday Inspiration emails included quotes from various authors and personalities. It wasn't until episode 19 that I tried my hand at writing the rhyme-based inspirational messages myself. The rest, as they, is history...
