''How Likely?''

We're powerless, she said.
That's how the world seemed through her eyes
And I, not one to judge, said
fair enough, let's analyze

The way you've framed your outlook
I can see why you're not striving
It's like your life is moving
in a car that you're not driving

But ask yourself this question
and perhaps you'll think anew
If others rise from depths of woe
I ask then, why not you?

The urge to grow and prosper
and the feeling that there's more
are clues we have a purpose here
of this I'm very sure

What works best is a view
that gets you where you want to go
not one in which you're victimized
and jostled to and fro

To me, all things are possible
what's hard is just believing
To think you've got no say
is just an act of self-deceiving

It makes no sense
we're born with dreams our inner eye can see
and not the means to reach them?
Hmmm...how likely could that be?

COMMENTARY:
Early on in my journey of personal growth, I encountered a concept in Brian Tracy's Psyhology of Achievement. He stated: Nature is not capricious. We wouldn't be given the faculties to dream of, and aspire to goals without also being equipped with the equally necessary means to achieve them. I liked that. It made sense. And it formed the basis of my accomplishments from that moment onward. And, the way I look at it is, you've got nothing to lose by believing. If you're right, then you can achieve anything you set your mind to. If you're wrong, and we, in fact, have no control, then at least you've lived a life with a feeling of empowerment as opposed to one of futility and dejection! So it's a win-win either way!
